Green smoothies are all the rage at the moment and I am happy to say this is one trend
I am sticking with.
The benefits of of this green, goopy loopy goodness make it well worth giving it a go.
I am happy to say that one of my babies likes it while the other runs the other way when he sees it being poured.

Not so happy about that, but hey.
I find other ways to sneak him his veggies (more on that at a later date).

This is one of the best ways I know how to get your daily dose of green leafys without having to scarf down a bowl of spinach.

The humble green smoothie has the added benefits of being very good at alkalising the body and providing you with awsome vitamins and minerals, thus providing you with inner health and an abundance of energy.

I love adding Synergy Supergreens (available from Coles) it makes for an extra added bonus of natural plant goodness.

Also if you want a bit of sweetness in the blend you can always try some dates, Agave or Stevia.

So if you want to add some green goodness to your diet here are a couple ideas to get you started ♥

Fruity loopy greens
1 banana
1 pear
1 tsp Supergreens
1 handful leafy greens
Water to create consistency of choice and then blend my friend.... Blend :-)

Here's another good one

Spinach Surprise
1 cup pineapple
1 cup fresh spinach leaves
1/2 cup ice cubes

2 mint leaves for zing
and BLEND
Easy Peasy hey, and dee-lishous

Have fun whipping up a treat.

I am so excited to be welcoming in the new year in a joyful and positive way. The beginning of the year had a few trials and tribulations to contend with, but all in all it has been a positive start to a significant and awsome year.
...2012 people...
A few weeks before Christmas our car decided to leave this world, in a matter of speaking. It made a strange noise and discontinued it's working status.
So we (that is Big Daddy and I) thought, what better time to commit to, trying to live a carbon neutral existence.
Our beloved vehicle, which I thought I could never live without has now been out of action for well over a month and we aren't looking back.
Not only have we reduced our carbon emissions significantly by taking our fossil burning beast off the road but we have also discovered the joys of fitness in the form of bike riding and walking.. Remember those things :-)
And best of all we have discovered so many beautiful natural places that we would never have found had we been driving from a to b in a rush to get here or there.
Do I miss my car...? Hell yeah...

And I will be getting one in the future I am sure of that, albeit a smaller more economical beast.
But I have gained so much more than I have lost.
To some people it seems unthinkable to NOT have a car, but not having one  really allows you to open up to the world and the people around you.
It leaves room for just being, and for exploration.

I highly recommend it.

I am loving it...

It is going to take commitment for anyone out there who wants to contribute to and create change in this world but it will be worth it in the end.
Our children will thank us.
And remember it's all the little actions we take as a society that will eventually make the difference.

What can you do today that can make a difference?

To continue the tree hugging/sustainable living trend, I am dedicating the month of February to Earth Inspired eating and wellness.

Real foods with real flavour.

Less artificial additives and preservatives and more local, organic produce, I can't wait.

This one has been on my list for a while so it will certainly be an interesting journey.

Will keep ya updated friends..

Lotsa love

The compost/worm farm

Over the last couple of weeks my ever supportive superhero partner, (superhero in that he puts up with my sometimes neurotic eco tendencies) who we shall call "Big Daddy" to protect his identity, has really gotten on the sustainable bandwagon and is going full steam ahead in the garden, transforming it into an eco wonderland with compost, worms and an aquaponics setup.

Never one to do anything halfheartedly we now have the beginnings of a self~sustainable lifestyle.

It is amazing what you can throw together with a few old planks of wood and an unused fridge (updates and pictures coming soon).
I love his enthusiasm, he constantly inspires and surprises me.

As a result of Big Daddy's enthusiasm I have been inspired to set myself an eco task to attempt each week. Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming trying to do everything at once exacerbating my neurotic tendencies. :-)
So this weeks little task was to complete a compost setup to reduce the amount of landfill waste we produce and thanks to Big Daddy it has been a complete success.

Food scraps and green waste make up half of the amount of landfill generated.

We went with a store bought composting system that we already had, but weren't using and set it up so it was ready to go. If you have a backyard you could always make your own with some old wood and whatever you have laying around, a quick search of google will help.

If you are an apartment dweller you can use a Bokashi bench top set-up...
See here. These are awsome for disposing of your food waste and helping the 'eco'

cause along the way.

So your challenge should you choose to accept it, is to join me and 'Be the change' each week.
It only takes one small step to start your green journey and composting is an easy way to start.

Let me know how you go..

Ok so my last post promised an onslaught of inspiration on making your eco journey an easier one.
Alas it seems that procrastination and life got in the way.
But on a positive note, my procrastination seems to have inspired the idea of just starting somewhere. Anywhere.
Even if you don't know where you are going.

Taking that first step is always the hardest and so I would like to offer my perspective about my own eco journey with a little story, and with the hope that if we are each able to inspire one person to
"be the change" that maybe we can make a little difference to what seems an immense task at hand.
The healing of the Earth.

Ok so this week I thought I'd start with an easy topic, or what I thought was easy.
RECYCLING.
I thought everyone recycled, but it seems I am a little naive when it comes to what 'everyone' does.

I was at a friends house the other day when I saw a flyer on the notice board at her building.
It was a little "how to" info sheet about recycling.
When I mentioned to my friend how awsome it was to see the Body Corporate encouraging recycling, she told me that it was actually her who put the notice up.
I laughed to myself because I know my friend is absolutely compulsive when it comes to recycling.
She told me that after months of noticing that it was only her rubbish in the recycling bin,
she'd had enough.
And in an ever so subtle message in the form of a flyer on the notice board of her building she set her sights on manifesting positive eco change.... I love it....

After putting the flyer up she has continually noticed rubbish that was not her own in the
recycling bin.
It just goes to show that sometimes we all need a little nudge in the right direction to remind us of what we already know is important.
Sometimes we procrastinate about our choices and actions, and sometimes we just plain forget to take the steps needed, and so this week I was inspired by this small but effective action that initiated change.

My friend was "being the change" she wanted to see in the world and in her own unique way created a ripple effect that touched the people around her. It reminded me that no matter how small our choices and our actions are they DO create an impact, a ripple effect that can  revolutionize the way we perceive things and can motivate change in the hearts of others.

I think the moral of this story is that we can all do our bit, in our own unique way by taking action about the things we care about, creating positive change.

Love you JB. Thanks for your constant and beautiful inspiration...

Love and blessings

Celebration!! 06/07/2011

Ok so it has been a long time between posts, but I am back with a renewed sense of enthusiasm, motivation and celebration.
Thanks to the 31 day Blogging Challenge and some inspiration from my Mama I am back on the Blogging bandwagon. So stay tuned and be prepared for a series of posts this month that I hope INSPIRE you in one way or another.

Coinciding with my renewed blogging excitement I am embarking on a journey in the form of a 21 day Earth reconnection quest. Everyday I will be immersing myself in Nature as much as I can with meditations, yoga and a diet of living foods minus dairy, meat, sugar and processed foods. I really want to 'walk the walk' so to speak and I would love to share my experiences with you all along the way.

So today I invite you to CELEBRATE...
Celebrate anything or everything in your life and do it with every ounce of your mind, body and spirit
but most of all celebrate Mother Earth in all of her glorious beauty in any way that is joyful for you.

Love and Peace Always

"If you had to look in your grandchild's eye and say, yes I knew it was going to happen but I didn't bother to do anything about it- that would be a terrible thing.

In the past we didn't understand the the effects of our actions- unknowingly we sowed the wind and now literally we are reaping the whirlwind- but we no longer have that excuse- now we do recognise the consequences of our behaviour- now surely we must act to reform it- individually, collectively, nationally and internationally before we doom future generations to catastrophe."
~ Sir David Attenborough

The time has come for action.

I am reminded of what it must have been like in the sixties when revolution was in the air, and the passion of so many was evident everywhere in society. When there was no other choice but to accept the coming change and not only embrace it, but to take every action to ensure it's eventual acceptance into society's consiousness.

This is my hope for our current position. That humanity will enlighten itself and embrace a culture of sustainability and an Earth loving mindset. Where the heart is the driving force behind our actions and thoughts, and we gift to our children and our grandchildren a shambala; a radiant, healthy planet Earth and society with love at it's very core.

Is it really an impossible mirage, a figment of imagination? Is humanity that self deluded that it is unable to save itself even at the expense of innocent generations?

"We stand on the threshold of transforming the Earth. In coming decades we may either continue on our current path and cause the dangerous warming of our world or as a global community we can come together in a bid for change.
We have to take action now if we are to protect our planet and our children's future"
~ Susan Sarandon, Actress

Let's make it happen.
Take just one action today and see how it feels. Then one more tomorrow and the next day and the next.

"The fluttering of a butterfly's wings can effect climate changes on the other side of the planet."
  ~Paul Erlich
